Mourne Granite has been trading for over one hundred years and first began by quarrying cobbles and kerbs in the Mourne mountains. These were transferred onto vessels in a small port in Annalong then transported to many of the major cities throughout the UK.
An increase in the use of concrete product signalled a change of direction for the company and importation of polished stone for the memorial market along with investment in more modern technologies, meant that customer demand for the manufacture of memorials was being satisfied. This product range was delivered to customers throughout the UK and Ireland.
In 1990 Mourne Granite became one of the first companies to manufacture worktops from stone. Fashion dictated popularity within the natural solid surface market which has been growing steadily since. With the rapid advancement in technology and skill, Mourne Granite has been creating high end surfaces for the Irish market dealing with both the trade and general public.
Around this time it became apparent that the company was receiving daily enquiries from all over the UK regarding building and hardlandscaping products.
This meant Mourne Granite was progressing full cycle back to where they had once began. Public and commercial demand was very high and led to the completion of some very successful projects. In recent years, self builders have been attracted to the company because it can satisfy all their natural stone requirements including natural stone tiles.
Last year, 2010, the company made substantial capital investment with quality and capability as the primary motivational factor. Now some of the most up to date manufacturing machinery is working alongside a decade of stone masonry experience.
With a commitment to continual product development, potential markets are continually widening and the company is endeavouring to continue this path into the future.
